Playa del Postiguet (Alicante)
Alicante city's own beach, right against downtown and beneath Santa Bárbara castle: golden sand, a palm-lined promenade and every service a city beach offers, in exchange for being the busiest stretch of sand in the capital.
Postiguet runs right at the foot of Mount Benacantil, with Santa Bárbara castle keeping watch from above and the port and old town a short walk away. The sand is fine, and the mood swings between relaxed and packed depending on the hour and season — in high summer, especially in the afternoon, it's one of the busiest stretches of sand in the province.
Being inside the city grid means everything is close — the tram and buses stop a few metres away, there are showers, lifeguards in season and an endless run of bars along the promenade — but that same location makes driving in and parking difficult through summer. Arriving on foot or by public transport from the centre is by far the more practical option.
