Cala de l'Almadrava
Cove of 100 metres north of Benidorm, in a wild setting at the foot of Serra Gelada. Fine sand with rocks, clear water without waves due to the protective cliffs. Popular for diving and snorkelling among varied marine life. Access is by descent on a slope.
Cala de l'Almadrava lies about two kilometres north of central Benidorm, at the foot of the Serra Gelada, in surroundings far less built up than the city's main beaches. It runs about 100 metres long, with fine sand mixed with rock, and its calm, clear water owes something to the natural shelter the cliffs give from the swell. The rocky, marine-life-rich seabed makes it a regular spot for diving, snorkelling, kayaking and paddleboarding.
There's no dive-gear rental at the cove itself, so anyone planning to dive needs to bring their own equipment. In high season it has lifeguard cover and sunbed and umbrella rental, but no beach bars or restaurants nearby.
Getting there
The way in is a narrow, sloping path that starts at Levante beach and follows the coastline down to the cove. It takes some effort, but it's the only way in on foot — there's no road down to the shore. Shoes with good grip help on the descent. It's a short distance from Cala del Tio Ximo and Torre de les Caletes, making it possible to link all three stops on a single walk along the coast.
