Platja del Mal Pas
Small beach of 120 metres between the main beaches, beside the port and old castle. Golden sand and clear waters that allow visibility of the seabed. It has held Blue Flag certification since 1987 and ISO 9001, 14001 and 13009 quality certifications.
Platja del Mal Pas is a small beach, about 120 metres long, tucked between Benidorm's two main beaches, Levante and Poniente, next to the harbour and right below the headland where the city's old castle once stood, watching the coast for pirate attacks. Its golden sand and clear water, which make it easy to see the bottom, set it apart from the larger, busier beaches elsewhere in the city.
It's one of Benidorm's most-recognised beaches for quality: it has flown the Blue Flag since 1987, one of the oldest and best-known standards in European beach management, and also holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 13009 certifications, covering quality, environmental and sustainability management on beaches.
Getting there and the surrounding area
It's reached on foot from the harbour or down a staircase that drops directly from the site of the old castle, now the viewpoint known as the Balcón del Mediterráneo, one of the best vantage points in the city. This combination of viewpoint and beach, with the fishing harbour as a backdrop, makes Mal Pas a regular stop for anyone visiting the old town, and the beach features among those recommended in the guide to the best beaches near Alicante. Boat trips out to the Illa de Benidorm, visible on the horizon on clear days, also leave from the harbour.
