Museo Casa Gabriel Miró
Literary museum dedicated to writer Gabriel Miró, housed in an architecturally notable villa. It offers insight into the author's life and work with connections to the Marina Baixa region and his literary influence.
The Casa Museo Gabriel Miró occupies Villa Pepita, a house built in 1911 and named by Josefa Mayor Pérez, the owner who renovated it shortly after buying it. The Alicante-born writer Gabriel Miró (1879-1930) never lived in the building and had no direct connection to it, but he spent long stretches of time in Polop because of his younger daughter Clemencia's poor health, and wrote about the village and its people in "Años y leguas" (1928), his final book and something of a literary guide to the Marina district of Alicante province.
A museum opened in 2015
The town council restored the villa in 2012 and turned it into a museum, which opened in 2015 in tribute to one of the town's best-known residents. The visit reconstructs life in Polop in the early 20th century and traces the writer's relationship with the village, with sections devoted to his work and the period in which he wrote it.
The building itself, a period leisure villa, is part of the appeal. It's a short walk from the Plaza de los Chorros and the Castillo de Polop, making it easy to cover all three in a single visit to the old town.
