Playa de los Locos (Torrevieja)
North of Torrevieja's centre, sportier and a touch less packed than Playa del Cura: fine white sand, slightly livelier waves that suit bodyboarding, and a quieter promenade.
Los Locos sits north of Torrevieja's urban core, separated from the centre by the harbour and a little further from the bulk of the hotels, which leaves it noticeably less crowded than Playa del Cura even in high season. The sand is fine and white, and the waves here tend to run a touch livelier than on the town's other beaches, which is why it's the one bodyboarders and anyone wanting a bit more movement in the water tends to choose.
It has its own promenade, beach bars and a younger crowd than the centre. The name comes from a psychiatric sanatorium that once stood facing the beach in the early 20th century — nothing of it remains today beyond the story.
