A park built on the ancient Mediterranean
Terra Mítica opened at the end of July 2000 with a different approach from other theme parks: instead of fictional characters, the thread running through it is the civilisations that grew up around the Mediterranean. The park is laid out in five themed zones — Egypt, Greece, Rome, Iberia and the Islands — each recreated with scenery, planting and architecture drawn from the period and culture it represents, so the visit works almost as a journey through time as well as a run of rides.
Among its attractions are several roller coasters, including Titanide, in the Greece zone, an inverted coaster with loops and drops of more than 30 metres. The programme is rounded out with live shows — actors and acrobatic routines spread across the different zones through the day — and themed areas built around fountains and water features.
The complex around the park
Next to Terra Mítica stands the Grand Luxor hotel, a property linked to the park that gives guests access to Terra Mítica and other parks in the same group in Benidorm, including Mundomar. Together with Mundomar and Aqualandia, Terra Mítica forms the core of theme parks that has made Benidorm one of the leading family-holiday destinations in the Comunitat Valenciana, with options covered in the guide to what to do in Alicante with children.
Frequently asked questions
Is Terra Mítica ticketed?
Yes, it's a paid theme park; it's worth checking whether combined tickets with other parks in the group are available before you go.
Is it suitable for young children?
The park has zones and rides for different ages, though some roller coasters have minimum height requirements, so it's worth checking these if travelling with young children.
How much time do you need to see it all?
A full day is typical for covering all five zones at a relaxed pace without excessive queues at the main rides.
